Lorraine

Lorraine founded Sy’s Fund in 2010 as a way to pay tribute to her son Silas’s generous and fun loving spirit after losing him to cancer in 2008 at the age of 29. She carries with her the tremendous love and insight she gained from Sy in his short but powerful time on earth, and is inspired by her daughters Phoebe, Eve, Jesse, Stephanie & Alex every day as well. Lorraine continues to learn invaluable lessons and is touched by each and every young adult with cancer she has the privilege of connecting with. She lives in Western Massachusetts; along with her passion for Sy’s Fund Lorraine loves hiking, photography, and visits with her grandchildren and extended family & friends.

A word from Sy’s Fund Co-Founder Joanne Wilson on the creation of Sy’s Fund – Joanne’s friendship and dedicated hard work so generously helped  Sy’s Fund become a reality before her move from Western Massachusetts to Pennsylvania in 2012

“Over a relatively short period of time I watched Lorraine’s heart break as she helped to care for her beautiful son while his health declined.  He fought his nemesis (Cancer) every step of the way, he fought it with humor, he fought it with love, and he fought it with every bit of life he had, but he lost.  In the aftermath of this loss, my friend Lorraine was left devastated, and she needed to find a way to divert that anger and pain into something positive in Sy’s memory.  When she decided to create this amazing fund, to help other young adults that were battling the same enemy as Silas, I knew I needed to be part of it.  I am so proud of all the hard work that Lorraine and many others have done to keep this dream alive.  Lorraine is the heart of Sy’s Fund and you all are its life force, everyone who gives or receives from this fund keeps it alive.   Thank you all so much” ~ Joanne
